trying to make it more beautiful than it was shifting it into shapes for other hands to cradle that my palms fumble the foreign words i can't hear myself say anymore have i forgotten what i know it'll come back to me different than i left it lighter than i learned it lessons in ripples the drippin of rain in circles of pain i held my tongue in my jaw so no one could hear what i saw oh how can i say what i've seen and how can i lay where i've been and let you kiss my skin learning to not be alone to be known and sewn with a thread other than my own singing with the birds who know of bravery of madness in the honey oh honey hear me honey, honey, hear me honey, hear me honey, hear me honey, hear me how do i say what i've seen and how do i lay where i've been and let you kiss the madness in the honey honey, honey, oh honey, honey, honey oh honey, hear me
2.
Sea Bell 07:24
the wild edge of sorrow is borrowing my chest oh i knew you the best i knew you the best and i need you now i need you now darlin' keep holding my hand darlin' keep holding my hand the ghost seems to hear me the most singing to the walls dreaming of the falling water and i see you now i'm dreaming now oh my heart is a sea bell my heart is a sea bell my heart is a sea bell the wild edge of sorrow is borrowing my chest the water knows me the best the water knows me the best wash me away wash me awake wash me away wash me awake
3.
the glass that my fingers touch fragile sands the breath that my body's held cracking hands the weight of the room was holding me to the bed in the corner of time writhing and mute the silence it took the army of me it took the army of me the blue in the black of the mind is the kind of rain pouring the honey jar on the bitter pain the bitter pain the weight of the room was pressing me to the bed in the corner of time writhing and mute the silence took root the silence took root the silence took root don't take me don't take me i held my breath and didn't hear a sound
4.
Pilgrim 07:08
i'm roaming, you know looking for a home amongst the willows to be alone anywhere but here anywhere but here a pilgrim in the desert heat wild is the rolling howl the wolves in the back seat drowning me out drowning me out temperance is a pure heart erosion is time beating on the water the undoing is mine undoing is mine when i was a bird everybody heard my ruby throated words oh i was a bird now my pilgrim life persists though i know the hummingbird sings and the mourning dove in the morning dew is a coo that i can sing to when i miss you i miss you
5.
Upstream 04:32
hold onto my hand the days are getting longer remember our pine trees the plums and the honeybees remember me the hope of the leaves in the spring fold into my chest our breath comes back after rest remember our dream the dragonfly in the marsh green remember me my heart beats in the upstream my heart beats in the upstream
6.
Warmer 05:10
i see you carving wood in the dawn and holding our daughter with your strong hands and the hummingbird tapping at our window to bless the morning sun and oh my love, it gets oh my love, it gets oh my love, it gets warmer we bless the moon devotion to the body we share the child we carry and oh my love, we are holding the sun we are, holding the sun we are, holding the sun, we are we are, holding the sun we are, holding the sun and oh my love, it gets oh my love, it gets oh my love, it gets warmer
7.
The Wolves 03:40
something in the way that the wolves know my name like the water runs in the dawning of the day in the woods i will lay like the shadow sun oh you brave one no one to save you holding the stone, and learning the sound something in the way that i'm finding my place like a pilgrim in the blessing of the space i'm reminded of my grace in the timeless wave oh you brave one no one to save braiding the sweetgrass in the home of your own body of water you roam with the wolves oh you run with the wolves you run with the wolves you run with the wolves you run with the wolves something in the way that the wolves know my name as a pilgrim
8.
house of light shine on me house of light shine on me holy, holy, holy one holy, holy, holy one
9.
Bedrock 03:57
the center cannot hold when the war is in the fold of the bedrock and i was never told that there's more to a war than the war within oh the war is all i've known everything i say is to the empty space in the hollow tree where the ghosts are free to roam oh the hollow is all i know oh the hollow is all i know i lay my body alongside the shadow and sing of the sorrow inside and claim what is rightfully mine the ghosts are mine the hollow is mine the story is mine the war is mine the war is mine the war is mine and the hollow tree where the ghosts are free the hollow tree where the ghosts are free the center cannot hold when the war is in the fold of the bedrock
10.
Oranges 05:09
pulled to the waves i wait for shore i couldn't stay i was waiting for more opened my eyes and where'd we go feather in flight i see below look at the life we've made look at the love we've made i dreamt of my daughter painting, her hands look like mine we colored the canvas hanging from branches of evergreen twine i could taste the oranges on my tongue you watch in the dappled sun dimpled and falling in love look at the life we've made look at the love we've made listen to the center, it's painted in crimson and gold this is where we enter, just as our story unfolds we hold to our days and those to come we have faith in the ways of the setting sun look at the life we've made this is our love, this is our love, this is our love
11.
Harvest 04:32
where the heartache reaps the harvest, i learn how the wind whips my skin and it burns the way that time tells the waking light fell over the light poured over me again i remember the day when the night came how the light faded but my heart stayed the same how the blood flowed like water all over the war how the love brought my knees to the floor with my body the ghost the hollow of hope remained in the dusty sight i saw the sparrow take flight the sparrows took flight i said nest with me nest with me i know no other wing i hold no other wing i know no other bravery i know no other bravery and the story ends and unfolds again how i stand in the landscape where the harvest keeps the shape of the self where the light leads and tells of the glory i hold the glory i hold the holy one the holy one

about

On her fifth release, Bedrock, Hannah Frances offers a breadth of spirit in her storytelling, bespoke guitar work, and valiant voice. Unfolding the inquiry of belonging, Frances focuses on the experience of longing as a form of shelter amidst a wavering landscape, on the solemn emergence from dreams that could no longer sustain, on the humility of ardent love and the loss thereof. A jaw clenched, a silence remembered, a longing unfound, a loving fully, a hope in the hands of another in a hollow in a house, wherein the harrowing surrender the self grows still.

Bedrock is a fountain of intentionality, offering rawness with reverence. With her most prosperous writing, performance, and production, Frances displays her capacity to ceaselessly uproot and recollect, moving seamlessly in a sharp edged spiral of understanding. Unyielding yet forgiving, remaining attentive and devoted to discernment, to prayer, to remembrance, Bedrock is a vigilant chronicle of becoming, of belonging, of being.
